10 Commandments

The 10 Commandments are very important. Not only are they the Moral Law, they were made to show us how to have trust in God for all things. They are also written for us to understand Gods way of thinking. To sum it up they all come down to loving one another and treating people the way you want to be treated.

God is love and he expects us to love like he does. With that being said, I am going to go through each one.

Something to ponder. The Commandments are written on 2 pieces of rock that look like tombstone. After I get done explaining them you may understand why they are shaped that way.

When one compromises his morals it hurts the soul. With that being said the majority of us are spiritually dead.

Commandment number one. Is to love your God with all you heart, mind and soul. God is Love, unconditional Love. If you know God just a little bit you know that he is love. That’s the first thing he teaches us when on a Spiritual Journey. He loves us no matter what. So we are to show that Love to ourselves and to others. Definitely a hard mindset to learn and apply to your everyday life. We will get more into Love later or in another Post.

Commandment number 2. You shall not love any other Gods before him. Love him with all your heart and soul. Nothing in this world compares to Gods love for his kids.

Commandment number 3. You shall not make yourself a carved image or of any likeness of anything in heaven above or that is in the earth beneath or that is in the water under the earth. He is talking about the moon and the stars, fish or and angels in heaven. That he comes first in all things. It says to pray about everything on any occasion. He will give you an answer. God comes first. Everything came from God.

Commandment number 4. You shall not bow down to them nor serve them., for I am the lord your God, I am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and forth generations, of this who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Again this commandment is talking about Love. It does not matter is your parents or their parents or great great great grandparents didn’t believe in God. He still loves and shows it everyday. Especially those who keep his commandments. So far in this blog he has really just said hey I love you unconditionally and I want you to do the same. It’s hard to keep his commandments to the Tee. It almost at times feels like it’s impossible. When we love something more than we love God he considers that A God. Example sex, money, workaholic, gambling, eating, a person ETC.. those would be considered other Gods.

It’s a different mindset when he starts to change your thinking. That will also come later.

Commandment number 3. You shall not take the name of the lord in vain, for the lord will not hold him guiltless for using his name in vain.

Saying the lords name in vain is like saying the F word. Clearly it’s a hard habit to break however it’s in the 10 commandments and should be applied to your life. If you think about it, 99% of the world uses his name in vain. On a positive side to that all things come from him.

Commandment number 4. Remember the sabbath day to keep it holy. 6 days you should labor and do all your work, on the seventh day you give to God. On it you shall do no work, you, your son or daughter, your male servant nor your female servant nor your livestock or sojourner who is with in your gates.

God made everything in 6 days and rested on the seventh. He is teaching up to be an imitator of him. We should do our best to give him one day. Look around and see everything and how beautiful it is. He deserves to have you learn about him and being thankful.

Commandment number 5. Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land your lord God is giving you.

My mother and father and I have many problems. I remember cursing them. Not to them however about them. In this journey it has been hard at times to love my mother the way he is talking about. My father the same. More so my mom. However, there are ways to overcome the bad feelings you may have or a grudge that your holding. Let it go. It’s keeping you sick. I remember with my mother I would get off the phone with her and I would have to play a Christian song to get through the feeling I was feeling. It’s worth the change in your mind and it’s good for the Spirit. Leave it to God, he will take care of it. He is the father of the people who don’t have have parents. So be an imitator of God. He will be well pleased because your keeping his commandments and loving like he does.

Commandment number 6. Do not commit murder.

This means don’t slander someone character because you don’t like them. Leave it to the father in heaven he will take care of whatever the situation may be. Love your enemy’s treat them like God treats his enemy’s. With Love. It’s hard believe me however worth it and there are promises from God if we obey him. It takes time to get into this mindset. I’ll be talking more about that too later.

Commandment number 7. Do not commit adultery. This one is trusting him completely and loving like he loves. If is written you are committing adultery just looking at another man or women. That’s hard not to do. We are human. This is purely a lesson of faith.

Commandment number 8 is do not steal. This is self explanatory. Don’t steal. There are plenty of ways to get what you need. It’s a commandment.

Commandment number 9 is you shall not bear false witness on your neighbor. Don’t go and lie about someone for personal gain. Be in the image of God and let him take care of it. Remember his wrath is far greater than anything I can say or do to someone else. Love thy neighbor as thy self.

Commandment number 10. You shall not covet your neighbors house, you shall not covet your neighbors wife, or his male server nor ox or donkey or anything that is in your neighbors. Don’t be jealous of other people. Be happy for them. Celebrate with them. Then do whatever it is you need to do to better your life.

Moses said to the people, do not fear, for GOD has come to test you, that the fear of him may be before you, that you may not sin. Exodus 20:20

That is why on Mount Sinai he was writing the 10 Commandments saying them in a loud voice with thunder and lightening. It was to get our attention. Not to “scare” us. It was to get our attention my friends. That we would fear him based on his word. To show his power just like he showed Moses and his brother AAron, as well as the Israelites and rescuing them from the Egyptians.

I’m not sure that I can never talk about the Story of Moses. I really don’t know the whole story. Or maybe I do I don’t know. The point is My Friends is that the 10 Commandments are written for a purpose. Everything is made for a purpose. The purpose for these Commandments is for us to one fear GOD in making decisions in our life. Two it’s to show his love and to have faith.

As I have talked about in the past you were mostly born into sin. With that being said you probably were not taught the 10 Commandments and I’ll say it over and over again. If you don’t know something then how can you do it. How can you display the Character of GOD when you don’t know what it is.

It’s that simple. You can’t deny that they are true because once you learn them it’s almost an ah ha moment in believing them yet most importantly believing in GOD.

The rest of the Bible is story’s of people just like me and you and every other background you can imagine. Nothing is new on earth. Everything is rebuilt. The only thing new on this earth is YOU by learning and obeying the 10 Commandments by changing the way you think and to change you to be a imitator of GOD.

It’s hard. It gets easier for sure. It takes time, the will to want it, and the open mind to receive it.

The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, that one may turn away from the snares of death. Proverbs 15:27
