The heart of gratitude changes your attitude

I think this was one of the hardest character defect I really had to work on. It’s hard to become or realize how much you really have when your constantly complaining about what you don’t have. Or always wanting or expecting more.

In fact when I was writing this on paper at the time there was a reading from the daily bread from Numbers 11-1-11 would they have enough if all the fish in the sea was caught for them? If there were only 6 fish in the net you would complain because there wasn’t 10. Finding the little things to be grateful for can be hard.

I guess it’s as hard as you make it. The one comment that was made to me during the process of changing the way that you think is ” Someone out there has it way worse than you do”. At first I did not understand that comment. And of course I would think that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

In the midst of my own thinking and dwelling on the things I didn’t have only left me in self pity, and even more ungrateful at the end of the day. It left me sick at heart. Truly! It wasn’t til GOD led me to be homeless that I started to be really grateful and stopped complaining.

Someone out there has it worst than you do became a reality. Seeing people out there happy, laughing, smiling some with out one complaint or to the bare minimum.

No one is perfect. I had to take a step back and take a look at what I could be grateful for every single day. My way of thinking did not go away at first. Read that again if you have to my way of thinking did not get me anywhere because it was my way. We can’t do things on our own.

Starting the day thank you for another day was a good start. Plus we are not promised tomorrow. We have no idea what will happen now or tomorrow so starting the day with being grateful is a great way to start.

Then being homeless I started being grateful for food because I was broke and thank GOD for shelters or I would have been starving to death.

Then I started being grateful for the group that the Lord provided me to hang out with because I used to be scared to even stop at a stop light just 7 to 8 years back. I would drive by and had no idea it was a shelter.

There I was one of those people standing out there with nothing but a back pack full of books. GOD works mysteriously. Being grateful for all things is the number one step to start changing the way you think, it also makes you feel good.

Being grateful makes you smile. It stops you from complaining it truly gives you a new outlook on life.being grateful also makes you feel good about yourself. The attitude you once had disappears and joy starts entering your heart.

When I say be grateful I mean be grateful for all things, good or bad. The more grateful you are the more good starts happening. GOD will show you the way. A light shines in your eyes that is contagious to others. It’s a glow that sends signals or energy to the universe and comes back to you in positive ways. Being grateful again for all things is really rewarding in all aspects of your life and in others around you. Others start asking you what changed about you over time, they start wanting what you have.

You must start asking your self daily in what ways can I be grateful. If you can’t think of anything than like for me it was grateful to wake up the next day. It’s that simple.

Stop complaining about things. Know that where you are in your life is where your suppose to be. Stop dwelling on the things you don’t have and start being grateful for the things you do have. Remember someone out there has it worse than you do.

Pray and ask GOD to remove this character defect, and to guide and direct your thoughts to be grateful. I promise he will. Don’t always see the negative, change every negative thought into a positive one. Catch the negative thought as it enters your mind change to a positive by correcting what you say as soon as you say it. Over time the negative thought or word may enter your brain however it will not come out your mouth.

This take time. It does not happen over night. Listen to KLOVE. It’s called Positive Encouraging KLOVE for nothing. Listen to it. It doesn’t only change your thinking it changes you. Hearing everyone testimony opens your eyes to GOD to maybe will strike something up about something that he has done and you didn’t realize it was him.

If for some reason you are having a hard time being grateful then be grateful for the second the monument or the breath your taking right now.

Father thank you for all you do for us with us and to us. We love you with all our hearts and soul. In the name of Jesus Amen

Much love

Melissa Giles
